Featuring Doyle Bramhall II
An Incredible Texas Connection of Guitars Smoke the Arcada Stage
True guitar legends are no strangers to the historic stage at The Arcada Theatre. And on Friday, August 1, one of the greatest guitar virtuosos of our time will carry on that tradition. Eric Johnson, on the list of of Musician Magazine's 100 Greatest Guitarists of the 20th Century, will lite up St. Charles in support of his new album "Europe Live." The new release was recorded in venues across Johnson's tour of the continent and draws from throughout Johnson's career.
On this very rare occasion, Johnson will welcome a special guest to the stage. A "Texas Connection" and fellow Experience Hendrix superstar, Doyle Bramhall II (who Eric Clapton cites as one of the most gifted players he has ever encountered) will rock the stage with Johnson. Bramhall has collaborated with Clapton for over a decade, as well as with other major artists including Tedeschi/Trucks, Elton John, Sheryl Crow, Gregg Allman and Dr. John.
Eric Johnson may be best known as the masterful studio craftsman behind his acclaimed million-plus selling breakout 1990 album Ah Via Musicom and its Top 10 hit "Cliffs of Dover." Over his seven studio albums, Johnson has delivered three Top 10 hits and two Top 40 singles, six Grammy nominations, and a seat in Guitar Player magazine’s "Gallery of Greats." And if you haven't seen him in one of his frequent performances on the Experience Hendrix tours, you are truly missing out!
Avidly collaborative, Johnson first started recording on sessions for Cat Stevens, Christopher Cross and Carole King, and has since recorded and/or performed with Rodney Crowell, Richard Marx, Jennifer Warnes, Carla Olson, Chet Atkins, B.B. King, James Burton, Steve Miller, Jerry Reed, Steve Vai and Joe Satriani (on the original G3 tour), John McLaughlin, Jimmie Vaughan, Sonny Landreth, Dweezil Zappa and Adrian Legg, and many more. He has paid homage in song to such players as Jerry Reed (“Tribute to Jerry Reed” on Bloom), fellow Texan Stevie Ray Vaughan (the Grammy-nominated track “SRV”) and Wes Montgomery (who Johnson saluted in his Ah Via Musicom composition “East Wes”).
This will indeed be a night of blues/rock genius.
Doyle Bramhall II stands as one of the most distinctive vocalist, guitarist, composer and producer in contemporary music. Eric Clapton, with whom Bramhall has collaborated for more than a decade, cites the guitarist as one of the most gifted players he has ever encountered.
At 18, Bramhall II toured with Jimmie Vaughan’s band The Fabulous Thunderbirds. Two years later he cofounded the blues-rock band Arc Angels with Charlie Sexton, Chris Layton and Tommy Shannon. In the aftermath of two critically acclaimed solo albums Jellycream and Welcome, Bramhall II's unparalleled skills as guitarist won the attention of both Roger Waters, who featured the guitarist on his In The Flesh tour, and Eric Clapton. Once recruited by Clapton, their association blossomed. Bramhall II toured with Clapton, collaborated on songs and left an indelible mark on albums such as Searching Robert J, Reptile and 2013's Old Sock, which he also co-produced.
